Unus Mundus
(literally meaning: One World)
The four elements are depicted by the four cardinal Zodiac signs:
Aries - fire
Cancer - water
Libra - air
Capricorn - earth
Unus Mundus is the conjunctio....
It's the royal mystical marriage of:
Heaven/Earth
Sun/Moon
King/Queen
transformed back into the original, undivided unity of the world soul....the world logos.... the god image within.... Unus Mundus is the final reuniting of our spirit, soul, and body with the world soul.
Unus Mundus In Alchemy
Renaissance alchemist Gerhard Dorn's highest goal and desire was
transforming the four elements (fire, water, air, and earth) back into
the original One World unity of Unus Mundus.
"Learn from within thyself to know all that is in heaven and on earth, that thou mayest be wise in all things. Knowest thou not that heaven [spirit] and the elements [matter] were formerly one, and were separated by a divine act of creation from one another, that they might bring forth thee and all things?.... Know that man's greatest treasure is to be found within man, and not outside him....
From the alchemist text "Theatrum Chemicum" Volume
One (1602 AD) Gerhard Dorn's "Speculativae philosophiae...."
Unus Mundus In Mythology
In mythology, Unus Mundus is that mythical, imaginal place where heaven touches earth.... Unus Mundus is the mystical land beyond all time and space.... a sphere of unity where the opposites of:
life/death
love/hate
peace/war
good/evil
spirit/matter all merge into one another and cease to exist separately.... Then, there is only the One....
It's All Greek To Me?
In Greek mythology - one such place was the Cave of the Nymphs. The Cave of the Nymphs was the final stop on the journey of the Greek hero, Odysseus. (Here's the description written by Homer.)
The Cave of the Nymphs was considered to be a sacred, "set apart" place where heaven [spirit] and earth [matter] meet. The cave was a place where souls descended from heaven by the northern door. It was here that souls obtained their bodies and were born into the world of time/space existence.
And likewise, souls returned to this to cave when it was their time to depart from the southern door. It was here that they shed their bodies in order to head back to their celestial home.
Applying all this to the human psyche:
Unus Mundus is that deepest part of the unconscious where heaven and earth meet and are unified.... it's the final reunion of spirit, soul, and body with the world soul....
Unus Mundus is the "god-image" dwelling within each one of us....
Unus Mundus is the final stop.... the end of our journey....
Unus Mundus is the final stop on the archetypal journey as told by the mystical cards of the Tarot.... (The World)
(The four elements are again depicted. But this time they are represented
by the four fixed Zodiac signs:
Leo - fire, Scorpio - water, Aquarius - air and Taurus - earth)
There's a famous Zen Buddhist saying: "If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him."
Have you ever wondered just what in the heck that means?....
Unus Mundus
Enlightenment ultimately comes from within.... The Buddha lives within....
Unus Mundus lives within.... The answers come from within.... We
cannot find Unus Mundus in our teachers, gurus, authors, lovers, friends,
family, children, etc., etc., etc. ....
Sure.... at times the people in our lives act as signposts and helpers along the way.... But we can only meet the Buddha from within.... We can only meet Unus Mundus from within....
And thus the old adage.... If you meet up with the Buddha on the road, kill him!
Christos
"Understand that thou art a second little world and that the sun
and moon are within thee, and also the stars...."
Origen, 2nd/3rd Century Christian Mystic/Theologian, Homilies
in Leviticum,126
Late 2nd Century Christian mystic Origen taught that Christ showed each of us the way to Unus Mundus by the example of his (Christ's) life....
Origen used the following rich, vivid illustration to convey his teaching:
Christ was the only person in the history of the world who had succeeded in the delicate, tricky balance of standing firmly with one foot in heaven while simultaneously placing his other foot on earth....
Unus Mundus
The place where heaven and earth meet.... it's the marriage of:
Heaven/Earth
Sun/Moon
King/Queen
Excuse me, but I'm having an Unus Mundus Moment!
Most of us have experienced "Unus Mundus moments" at one time or another....
You know.... Those brief, fleeting moments when we feel in total harmony with the flow and pulse of the universe.... Those brief moments when we "somehow" know and feel that our lives are being mysteriously orchestrated by a power larger than ourselves....
Those brief moments when we feel more like "the windshield than the bug...."

(Unus
Mundus & Synchronicity)
Synchronicity (meaningful coincidence)
Synchronicity a term first coined by Jung.... In recent years the term "synchronicity" was introduced into pop culture consciousness by the artist, Sting (an avid student of Jung) and the Police.
And now of late - the best seller book entitled "The Celestine Prophecy"
relies heavily upon the experience of "synchronicity."
Examples of synchronicity:
1st You're sitting at home....
And then for no apparent reason you start thinking about someone you haven't thought about or seen for years.... and at the same instant, the phone rings and it's them....
Synchronicity - meaningful coincidence.... no apparent causal connection....
2nd One night, you have a dream about someone who used to be important in your life.... This is a "someone" who hasn't been in your life, dreams or thoughts for quite some time - and the dream leaves you with an eerie feeling of concern for the "someone."
Later on you discover that the "someone's" mother died on the same night and it was virtually at the very same moment you had the disturbing dream.....
Synchronicity - meaningful coincidence....no apparent causal connection....
Unus Mundus was one of the "story pictures "Jung used in helping explain the mysterious phenomenon of synchronicity.
In this deepest, unified center of the psyche:
If an action or event takes place in Unus Mundus; then, in our world of time and space reality, this one action or event is split apart into the opposites of spirit and matter.
Alchemists had the old saying, "As above [spirit], so below [matter]....."
Spirit
Matter
the thought of the old friend
the old friend calls you
Certainly no "real world," time and space causal connection....
Unus Mundus.... the god image within....
